Line an 8x8 pan with foil; coat with Pam. Place 1/2 of the broken cookies in pan.
In a heavy saucepan, combine the milk, butter and chips; cook and stir over low heat until chips are melted. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Pour over cookies in pan. Sprinkle with remaining cookies. Press down softly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Cut into squares.
NOTE- Instead of cooking on the stove, I just melted this in the microwave, starting with 1 minute, stirring, then at 15 second intervals, stirring, until melted.
These are a new addition to my Christmas boxes that I do for family and friends. If I'm baking a large batch of cookies..I can make this while I'm waiting the 8-10 minutes for a batch to finish in the oven.
