225g or 8oz plain flour
pinch salt
2 tsp ie 2 x 5ml spoon ground ginger...heapedish
1 tsp ie 1 x 5ml spoon mixed spice.....heapedish
1 tsp ie 1 x 5ml spoon bicarbonate of soda
50g (2 oz) soft brown sugar ( sucre roux)
100g (4 oz) marg or butter
175g (6 oz) black treacle
50g (2 oz) golden syrup
150ml (1/4 pint) milk
2 medium eggs beaten

Heat oven to 150C, 300F, gas mark 2. Grease an 18 cm/7 inch square deep cake tin.
Melt marg, treacle, syrup gently. Gradually beat in milk and allow to cool.
Sieve together flour, salt,ginger, spice and bicarb. Stir in sugar.
Add beaten eggs to cool treacle mix and then stir treacle mix into flour.Pour mix into tin and bake for 75 mins...check early door so not too dry...should be moist
