In a pint size zippered freezer bag, combine milk, sugar and vanilla. Zip the bag closed to seal it well; set aside. Fill a 1-gallon zippered freezer bag about half full of ice; add the salt.
Place the small sealed bag inside the gallon bag with the ice. Zip the gallon bag closed, pushing out excess air. Place bags in a second gallon bag if desired and seal. Wrap the outer bag in a towel or wear gloves.
Use hands to flip and shake the bags for 5-10 minutes or until the ice cream thickens. Take the small bag out of teh large bag and wipe it off. Open the small bag, stir some candy or cookie pieces into the ice cream and eat it right out of the bag.
