-Top/Bottom Crust Layer-
1 cup flour
1/2 cup quick oatmeal
1/2 cup flaked coconut
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 cube cold butter
-Middle Layer-
1 cup pitted dates
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp flour
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1/2 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Stir together first 5 ingredients. Add cold butter and mix until cumbly. Add 1 tbsp and 1 tsp cold water. Mix well. Divide mixture in half. Spray the bottom of an 8 X 8 inch baking dish. Pat 1st half firmly into bottom of pan. Reserve the 2nd half for the crust topping on the bars.
Boil Water. Chop and or cut dates into fine pieces. Put into medium size bowl. Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over chopped dates. Stir in the brown sugar, flour, and nuts. Pour the date mixture onto the bottom crust. Then put the 2nd half reserved crust topping onto date mixture and press down firmly. Bake for 30 minutes or until top is a golden brown. Cool completely befor cutting into 1 1/2 inch squares.
