     Custard Amaretto Cake

1 pkg yellow cake mix
1/2 cup corn starch
1 cup water
4 eggs
1/2 cup corn oil
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
Custard filling (see recipe)
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup powered sugar
1 pkg slliced almonds toasted (sm pkg)

Grease/flour two 9 inch layer cake pans. In lg bowl mix cake mix and corn starch. Add waters, eggs, oil and vanilla.
Pour half batter into pan. Sift cocoa over remaining batter and stir until blended, pour remaining into pan. Bake 350 30-35 minutes, until done.
Make filling while cake bakes. In a sauce pan combine 3/4 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cornstarch, 1/8 tsp salt, gradualloy stire in 3 cups milk until smooth. Stir in 4 slightly beaten egg yolks. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over low heat and boil 1 minute, remove from heat. Stir in 1 tsp vanilla. Cover and chill.
Cool cake layers. Remove from pans and split in half. Brush layers with 1/2 cup amaretto. Put chocolate layer on serving dish and spread with 1/3 cup custard. Then a vanilla layer, spread with custard. Continue. Whip heavy cream, sugar and 3 tbs amaretto and frost cake. Garnish with almonds.
