Put softened butter in bowl and cream, then add powdered sugar, salt, milk or cream and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add more powdered sugar as necessary to thicken for spreading.
Will frost 13x9x2 loaf cake or two 8inch cakes.
Lemon/Orange Butter Cream
Use lemon or orange juice instead of milk and 1 tsp of grated rind
Chocolate Butter Cream
Increase butter to 1/2 cup. Increase powdered to 1lb. Add 3 squares of melted unsweetened chocolate or 1/2 cup cocoa and 2 egg yolks. Beat until smooth
