Peel the carrots. Wash and slice them. Cook in water with butter, sugar, and a little salt for about 15mins until tender. Drain and put aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Soak the bread roll in a little warm water until soft, and then squeeze out the excess water. Chop into small pieces. Peel onions, chop finely and place into a bowl with ground meat, beaten egg, chopped soft bread roll, salt, pepper and chopped thyme.
