Beat shortening at medium speed with electric mixer 2 minutes. Gradually add sugar, beating 5- 7 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, beating just until yellow disappears. Combine bananas, buttermilk & vanilla. Combine flour, soda & salt. Add to shortening mixture alternately with banana mixture beginning & ending with flour mixture. Mix at low speed after each addition just until blended. Stir in pecans. Spoon batter into a greased & floured 10in. tube pan. Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 15 minutes. Remove from pan & cool on rack. Mom loved banana bread or cake. I do not know if this is her recipe but most of them are the same.
