In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, shortening, and sugars until light and flufft. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chips (dough will be slightly sticky). Drop by tablespoonfulls 2 in apart onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 min or until lightly browned. Remove to wire racks to cool.
