Preheat oven to 350. Cream together applesauce, sugar, vanilla,
shortening & salt. Add remaining ingredients and mix until
smooth. Pinch off 1 - 2 teaspoons and roll into ball. Place on
baking sheet and flatten slightly. or to make decorated cookie
shapes with cookie cutters, divide dough into fourths. Place one
section of dough between wax paper and roll out to 1/2 inch.
Use cookie cutters. Bake 12 - 15 minutes or until cookies are
darker around edges.
