Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   Holiday Dish

Ingredients
1 Pound Walnuts finely chopped
2 teaspoons ground cinamon
½ (Half) a teaspoon of ground cloves
1-2 Tablespoons sugar
1 Pound (4 sticks) +1 extra stick of unsalted melted butter
1 packet of 1 Pound of Phyllo Dough Pastry for Pastries (Supermarket Freezer section)
For the syrup :
3 and a half cups sugar
2 and half cups water

2 teaspoons Fresh Lemon Juice
1 whole stick of cinnamon
3 whole cloves
For decoration
I whole clove in every piece of baklava

Instructions
Take out the Phyllo dough from your Freezer and take out the Phyllo dough from the box but not the plastic film around it and set aside to thaw for 2 hours Mix the walnuts the sugar the ground cinnamon the ground cloves together and put it a bowl set aside Put your oven to preheat on 300 F Unroll the Fillo dough on a flat surface and keep it covered with waxed paper and a damp towel so it does not dry out and becomes flaky. Count your phyllo dough it should be between 20-25 sheets Save 3 Phyllo dough sheets separate under a damp cloth Melt the butter cover and set aside Take a baking pan and brush your pan with some butter with a pastry brush
Take one Phyllo sheet put it in the baking pan and brush it with some melted butter Take a second Phyllo sheet put it in the pan brush it with some butter Take a third Phyllo sheet put it in the pan brush it with some butter On your 4th Phyllo sheet put it in the pan brush it with butter and sprinkle with the walnut mixture Continue like this until you have reached to your 3 saved Phyllo sheets Brush them one by one with butter and put them in your baking pan one sheet at the time Throw over the remained butter plus the melted extra stick of butter over the baklava
Using a long very sharp knife cut the baklava into small diamonds. First make 6 evenly spaced lengthwise cuts. Cut straight down until the tip pf the knife touches the bottom of the pan and keeping the knife straight, cut in a straight line all the way. Next, cut diagonally across the lengthwise cuts to form diamonds, starting in one corner and making cuts until you reach the opposite corner. Decorate the diamonds with one whole clove on each piece Bake for about 1 hour and a half at 300 F or until the baklava is golden and flaky Remove to a rack let it become rooms temperature When the baklava is rooms temperature start the preparations for the syrup
Mix all the ingrediences for the syrup together in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes Remove the cinnamon stick and the whole cloves and pour over the baklava Let it sit for good 4-6 hours until the syrup is all absorbed and then eat it If you want you can use just almonds instead of walnuts but please make sure you clean the almonds from the brown skin by throwing them in boiling water for a couple of minutes to remove their skin and then put them in the oven to give them some color You can also use half almonds and half walnuts as well
Serving Suggestions
Serve room temperature and keep it outside the refrigarator in a cool place covered with foil
