Sift all dry ingredients together. Add 1 cup shortening and mix well. Add milk and eggs. Roll out cookie dough to desired thickness. Cut into desired shapes and bake at 375 degrees for approximately 10-12 minutes. Decorate as desired or add sugar before baking.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -NOTES - This recipe was handed down to Laura (Tami's mother) from her mother Ula Mae Eschman, who learned it from Laura's grandmother, Mary Akroyd Eschman. Mary's parents immigrated to Dresden, Ohio from Batley, England, in the early 1800s. Tami and Rachel make these every Christmas. Decorating them is a highlight of the holiday season.
