     Butterscotch Brownies

Ingredients
1/4 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
 

Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Heat shortening over low heat until melted; remove from heat. Mix in brown sugar and vanilla and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in greased square pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches. bake 25 minutes. Cut into 2 inch squares.
Brazil Nut Bars- Substitute 3/4 cup ground Brazil nuts for the nuts.
