     Corn Bread

4 cups yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
1 tsp salt
8 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 cup shortening
4 cups water (approximately)

Combine dry ingredients and shortening. Stir in the water gradually, avoiding lumps, until the mixture is just thick enough to drop from a spoon. For a crisp sheet of corn bread fill the reflector pan half full. If a frying pan is used have the batter about 1/2 inch deep. Bake 20-30 minutes until done.
