     Buttermilk Gingerbread

Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup unsulphered molasses
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
 
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 cup buttermilk

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 inch square pan and line with waxed paper. Cream shortening; add sugar and cream mixture until fluffy. Blend in molasses. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Soft together flour, salt, baking soda and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Turn into prepared pan and bake 40 minutes.
