Butter the bread slices.
Cut the slices of ham and the slices of cheese same size as the bread slices.
Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on 4 of the bread slices.
Cover with the other bread slices and butter the tops.
If you wish- in a bowl, mix the milk and cheese and spread it on the croque-monsieurs.
Set on a hot baking tray and put in a hot oven (220°C (th7-8)) .
Let them become golden for 10 minutes.
Serve with a salad and accompany with cider...

NB- you do not have any oven ?... - skip the last step with the grated cheese and grill them in a frying pan... Délicieux!
