Cream butter and sugar; add egg, sifted dry ingredients, water and vanilla. Mix well, fold in apples and walnuts. Bake in a 9" greased pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Sauce: Combine sauce ingredients in saucepan, bring to a boil, and boil for 1 minute. Pour over cake and serve warm.
