     Gingersnap Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2-1/4 cup flour
granulated sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix thoroughly - shortening, brown sugar, and egg. Heat molasses for 15 seconds in microwave, incorporate into mix. Sift all remaining ingredients into mixer, except sugar, and blend well. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough by rounded teaspoons into balls. Dep tops in granulated sugar. Place balls sugared side up on a greased baking sheet. Bake 8 minutes, or just until set. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
