Melt half the butter in a saucepan. Add the onion and cook over a low heat, stirring occasionaly for 5-6 minutes or until softened. add the tomatoes and stir for 15 minutes or until pulpy
meanwhile, melt the remaining butter in another sauce pan add the flour cook stirring constantly for 1 minute remove from heat and add milk return to heat season and continue to cook until smooth and thickened
when the tomatoes are pulpy remove the pan from the heat pour into a blender whizz until smooth now put in a clean saucepan. bring tomatoes to a boil and add milk mixture season and serve
