     Date Nut Bread

Ingredients
1 1/2 boiling water
1 cup chopped dates
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
2 1/4 cups flour
1 Tbsp melted shortening
 
1 cup nuts
1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pour boiling water over dates and let stand to cool. Add sugar to beaten egg; mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients; mix well. Add date mixture and shortening; mix well. Add vanilla and nuts; mix well.
Put into large bread pan. Bake 1 hour 15 minutes or until wooden stick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes. Remove from pan to cooling rack; Cool Completely.
