In a bowl, cream shortening and butter;
Add sugar, water/milk and vanilla; blend on medium speed until well mixed.
Blend an additional minute or so until creamy.
To make it Chocolate Buttercream-
Add 3 ounces of melted unsweetened chocolate and 1 Tbsp milk or water; Blend until creamy.
Recipe yields 3 cups stiff buttercream frosting.
