     Date Nut Bread 2

Ingredients
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 cup pitted dates-- cut up
3/4 cup raisins
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour, sifted
 
3/4 cup pecans, chopped

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 9x5 loaf pan
Combine soda and boiling water. Pour over dates. Add in raisins; Set aside Cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Add in vanilla and egg; Beat well Add flour, water mixture and pecans to creamed mixture. Mix well. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 45-55 minutes or until wooden stick inserted in middle comes out clean.
