     Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients
1 cup quick oats
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
 
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons evaporated milk
4 tablespoons margarine, melted
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup nuts

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water over quick oats. Let stand for 20 minutes.
Cream shortening and sugars. Add egg and oat mixture. Combine dry ingredients and add gradually. Bake for 35 minutes.
Mix brown sugar, canned milk, and margarine. Add coconut and nuts. Spread over cake and broil at 375 under slightly bubbly.
