Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla, mix well. Add flour and combine. Spread 1/4 inch thick over an area about 13x15 on a 14x17 cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
While cookies are baking, melt chocolate chips. Spread over hot cookies. Sprinkle with nuts and cut into bars.
