In medium mixing bowl, stir flour, cocoa, soda and salt together. In large mixing bowl, beat shortining for 30 seconds, add brown sugar & vanill; beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add dry ingredients alternately with 1/2 c. milk; beating well after each addition.
