     Blustery Iced Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
Sugar Cookie Ingredients-
3/4 c butter, softened
1 c sugar
1 large egg
2 T vanilla
2 1/2 c flour
1/2 T baking powder
Royal Icing Ingredients-
7 T water
 
4 T meringue powder
7 c powdered sugar
1/2 t cream of tartar
1-2 drops food coloring

Instructions
Cookie instructions- oven to 350 degrees. Beta butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla. Combine flour with baking powder and add to butter mixture in 2 additions. Divide dough in half and flatten into discs. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour, or until well chilled (make ahead and refrigerated dough up to 3 days or freeze up to 3 weeks). Cut out cookies with cookie cutters. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool completely on wire rack before icing. Royal Icing instructions- Combien water and meringue powder. Sift together powdered sugar and cream of tartar. Add to water mixture. Beat 7-10 minutes. Thin icing with additional water if needed. Tint 1/2 c portions with food coloring to desired colors. makes 3-4 dozen 3 inch cookies.
In the Kitchen you can build a snowman! Supplies- Sugar cookie dough, Royal icing, snowman cookie cutter, 1 c white nonparels or sanding sugar, 1/4 c mini chocolate chips, 1 box tic tac orange mints, cellophane bags, ribbon Instructions- frost cookies with royal icing using the back of a teaspoon. Working quickly before icing sets, sprinkle with nonpareils or sanding sugar. Decorate using chocolate chps for eyes, a tic tac for nose, and m&m buttons. Let set for 1 hour or until dry.
Get creative. Gather a group and watch the fun unfold when you host an icing party. Bake sugar cookies ahead and let everyone-kids and adults-decorate to their hearts content. The best of the batch can be left out for Santa! A simple and fun way to make memories together this holiday season.
