Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in brown sugar until dissolved.

Cool completely, then beat in the egg and vanilla.
|
|
|
Sift and measure flour, then resift with baking powder and salt.
Stir into the butter mixture.
Add coconut.

|
Turn into a greased and floured 8 by 8 inch cake pan.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Cut into bars when nearly cooled.
