     Chocolate Walnut Sugar Cookies

2/3 Cup shortening
2/3 Cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 Cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 eggs
3 Tablespoons amaretto liqueur, coffee liqueur, creme de cacao, or milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 Cups all purpose flour
1/2 Cup miniature smisweet chocolate pieces
3/4 Cup finely chopped walnuts(almonds or pecans)

Beat shortening and butter in a large mixing bowl for 30 seconds. Add sugar and baking powder; beat till combined. Beat in eggs, liqueur or milk, and vanilla till combined. Stir together flour and cocoa powder. Add the flour mixture and mix well. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten each with a glass dipped in sugar. Bake in 375 degree oven for 7 to 9 minutes or till edges are firm. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 72.
