     Bread & Butter Pickles

4 quarts of pickles
6 medium onions sliced
1/3 cup pickling salt
3 small clove buds sliced small pieces
5 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
2 1/2 or 3 cups vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
2 tablespoons mustard seed

Wash pickles and slice them with skins on. Soak pickles in onions, pickling salt and cloves for 3 to 4 hours. Drain pickles. Bring to a boil sugar, celery seeds, vinegar, turmeric and mustard seeds, then add pickles and bring to a boil mix for a while when boiling. Then pour into jars.
