     Gingerbread Cutouts

Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1 Tbsp vinegar
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp baking soda
 
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves

Instructions
In a mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium high speed for 30 seconds. Add about half of the flour, the sugar, molasses, egg, vinegar, baking powder, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves. Beat til thoroughly combined. Beat in remaining flour. Chill dough for 3 hours.
Roll out dough on floured surface and cut with cookie cutters. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in 375 F oven for 5 to 6 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool and frost if desired.
