     Tea Biscuits

Ingredients
3 cups white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
8 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
Pinch of salt
1 cup shortening (butter)
1 1/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk (add 1 tablespoon of vinegar)
1/2 cup of raisins (OPTIONAL)
1/2 cup of cranberries (OPTIONAL)
 
1/2 cup of shredded sharp cheese (OPTIONAL)

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°C. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Cut shortening into flour mixture using a pastry blender. Make sure the mixture resembles fine oatmeal. Gradually add milk to lour mixture until a dough forms. On a floured surface, roll out dough until 2cm thick. Cut out biscuits using a small glass. Place biscuits on a greased cookie sheet. Gather scraps of dough and continue to make more biscuits. Cook 20 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown in colour.
