Recommendations
  of course

Ingredients
1 cup diced onion
2 tsp minced garlic
1 TBSP curry powder
1 tsp tumeric
1 tsp mustard seeds (black or brown)
1 TBSP vegetable oil
8 cups broth
2 cups yellow split peas (Central Market carries them)
1 bay leaf

2 tsp salt
1 tsp cayenne
1/2 cup yogurt
2 1/2 TBSP lemon juice

Instructions
Saute the onion, garlic, curry, tumeric, and mustard seeds in oil until onion is soft. Combine everything but the yogurt and lemon juice. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer until split peas reach the tenderness of your choice. Before serving stir in the yogurt and lemon juice.
This is good to make at least a day in advance, gets better and thicker each day.
Serving Suggestions
Great on it's own but originally served over a rice ball in a shallow soup bowl. Simply make a ball out of sticky rice, about the size of a baseball.
