|
1) Preheat oven to 350 F. Line 60 mini(1 3/4-inch) muffin cups with paper baking cups.
2) Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Spoon evenly into prepared muffin cups.

3) Bake 10 minutes or until toothpick inserted into centers comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove to wire rack; cool completely.
4) Usinr serrated knife, cut off rounded domes of cupcakes so tops are flat. Remove baking cups from half of cupcakes.

5) Divide frosting between two small bowls. Add food coloring, a few drops at a time, until desired shades are reached. Spread small amount of frosting evenly in center of cupcakes with baking cups. Place cupcakes without baking cups upside down over frosting; press gently to seal cupcakes together.
6) Frost cupcakes, mounding extra frosting on top to create egg shape.

7) Working one at a time, unwrap candy squares and microwave on low for 5 to 10 seconds or until softened. Press candy between hands or on waxed paper to flatten to 1/8-inch thickness. Using scissors or paring knife, cut out triangles for beaks. Create faces on chicks with candy beaks and dots of decorating gel for eyes.
