     Drunken Cheey Bread

Ingredients
butter for the pan
1/2 baguette, cut into 2 inch slices
1/2 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
1/8 lb thinly sliced cooked ham
3/4 C white wine
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 C grated Gruyere (or swiss, monterey jack, white cheddar)
 

Instructions
Heat oven to 400. Place the bread in a buttered ovenproof skillet, 9" square baking dish or casserole.
Scatter onion and ham over the bread. Sprinkle with pepper and Gruyere. Bake until cheese has melted, about 20 minutes.
