Mix well together the yeast, sugar and 3 cups flour. Add hot water and mix until yeast is dissolved. Add shortening, salt, and egg beating well. Add remaining flour, 1 cup at a time. Knead until elastic. Place in lightly greased bowl turning to grease all surface. Allow dough to rise to double. Divide dough into three parts. Roll into about 12 by 12 inches. Brush lightly the center third with melted butter, and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Fold over one third dough over the center, and repeat with butter and sugar mixture, then fold over the other third and repeat again. Cut into about 1 inch strips. Take hold of each end of strip and twist tightly in opposite directions. Seal ends firmly. Place on greased or Pam sprayed baking sheets about 1 1/2 inches apart. Cover and let rise in warm place, until doubled in bulk about 1 hour. Bake in 350 degree oven about 25 minutes.
