Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Add a little of the hot milk to make a smooth paste. Add paste to hot milk; cook in the top of a double boiler or use low flame under heavy saucepan. Stir continuously until pudding is thick. Turn flame low, and cover and cook for 10 minutes. Beat egg yolks; add vanilla. Add a little of the hot pudding to egg yolks (setting aside egg whites for meringue) and mix well. Remove from heat. Allow to cool. Slice bananas into baked and cooled pie shell. Top bananas with pudding. If desired, top with meringue and brown.
