In a saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate. Remove from the heat. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in melted chocolate and vanilla. Combine buttermilk and water. Combine flour, salt and baking soda; add to batter alternately with the buttermilk mixture. Fold in nuts if desired. Pour into a Pam sprayed 10 inch tube or fluted tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes; remove from pan to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar.
