1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1(6oz) jar maraschino cherries,chopped-reserve 1/3c. juice
3/4 c. pecans, chopped

Preheat oven to 350. Beat shortening, eggs and sugar in one bowl. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the egg mixture alternately with the reserved juice. Fold in the chopped cherries and the nuts. Pour into an 8 or 9 inch loaf pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes.
