     Grandma Shurte's Icebox Cookies

Ingredients
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening (1/2 butter or margarine)
2 eggs
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
4 cups flour, reserve 1 cup for forming rolls
1 cup raisins
 
1 cup dates, chopped
1 cup walnuts, chopped

Instructions
Combine sugar and shortening, mix well; add eggs, beat well. Add cream of tartar, soda, and salt to 3 cups of sifted flour, leaving one cup to use on board for rolling out. Stir in raisins, dates, and walnuts; you may use any one or all of these three ingredients.
Turn cookie dough out onto floured surface. Form dough into two rolls. Wrap rolls in plastic wrap or wax paper. Let stand overnight in refrigerator. When very cold, slice and bake at 375 degrees for 9-11 minutes.
