In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves. Whisk in the brown sugar. Stir in the butter, molasses, milk and egg. Continue tirring until the dough is well combined. Fold in the raisins, if using.
Drop rounded teaspoons of dough onto a parchment-line baking sheet. Bake for 12". Remove from pan onto a wire cooling rack and cold.
