Cook onion in oil until tender. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper and bay leaf.
Combine meat, bread crumbs, cheese, parsley, garlic, milk, eggs and basil/oregano. Mix and form into balls. Heat large fry pan and brown meatballs on all sides.
Add browned meatballs to the sauce and simmer for at least 1 hour.

Serve over pasta and garnish with grated parmesan cheese and fresh parsley or basil
