In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, salt, egg, oil and 3 cups of flour; beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour to form a soft ball.
Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl (oiled) turning once to oil top. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled. About 1 hour.
Punch dough down and divide in half. Shape into two loaves and placed in two 9x5x3 loaf pans. Cover again and allow to double in size once more.
Bake at 375 degrees for 25-35 minutes or until brown Remove from pans and allow to cool on wire racks. Slice with a serrated knife and serve.
