Melt butter in a 3 quart sauce over low heat. Add marshmallows and cook stirring until marshmallows are melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and add rice cereal. Stir to coat evenly. Press warm mixture evenly into buttered 13 X 9 inch pan. cool. Cut into bars.
