Basbousa Recipe - Semolina Cake with Syrup! Egyptian name (pronounced baz-boo-sa) Lebanon known as Namoura Syria known as Harissa Greece and Turkey known as Revani or Ravani Very Moist and it's really very very delicious!!
Method- Cake Cream together, butter, sugar, 1 teaspoon orange blossom water or rose water. Add eggs and vanilla essence. In a separate bowl, combine semolina, baking powder, baking soda and coconuts. Slowly add to the butter and egg mixture. Stir milk. Pour mixture into a baking dish and smooth with spoon. Leave to set for at least 1 hour. Before you put it in oven take a butter knife and make diagonal lines from left to right and complete to make diamond shapes. Place an almond in the center of each diamond. Bake for 25-30 minutes or till golden brown on 180 c middle shelf. Meanwhile prepare syrup.
Method- Syrup Dissolve sugar in water in a small pan. Add lemon juice or orange juice, ground cinnamon, cloves, ground cardamon and bring to the boil. Once the syrup begins to boil, add in honey. Reduce heat and simmer for about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and remove the whole cloves and add the orange blossom water or rose water, set aside. When cake is ready pour syrup over cake until no more can be absorbed. Allow to cool for 20 minutes before serving. Enjoy the taste --)
