Place butter in a large heatproof bowl. Using a wooden spoon or electric mixer on low speed, beat until smooth. Add cream and parmesan. Stir until well blended; set aside.
Bring large saucepan or lightly salted water to a bowl. Add pasta and cook according to package directions. Drain well and immediately add hot pasta to butter mixture in large bowl. Using forks toss pasta add salt and pepper.
Sprinkle shredded basil if desired.
