     Dill Pickles

Ingredients
fresh dill - 4 sprigs
1/2 tsp alum/quart (powdered)
garlic cloves - 4
cucumbers - as needed to fill quart jars
1 Tbsp sugar/quart
1 quart white vinegar
1/2 c pickling salt
3 quarts water
 

Instructions
Clean cucumbers, taking flower end off. Pack cucumbers in jar and top with dill sprigs, alum, garlic and sugar.
Make a brine and bring to a boil 3 quarts water, 1 quart vinegar and 1/2 c salt. Boil for 15 minutes. This brine recipe makes 5 quarts of pickles.
Top the jars off with the brine and process.
