     Streusel Coffeecake

Streusel -
1/2 c nuts
1/3 c packed brown sugar
1/4 c all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
3 tbsp. firm margarine or butter
Mix all ingredients til crumbly
Batter -
2 c all-purpose flour
1 c sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup softened butter or margarine
1 c milk
1 egg

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix batter ingredients in a large mixer bowl on low speed for 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally for 2 minutes.
Coating for pan - 1/4 cup margarine or butter. 1/2 c packed brown sugar. 2 medium thinly sliced apples.
Heat margarine in a square pan (9 by 9 by 2 in.) in the oven until melted; sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange apples in the pan. Spread batter over apples. Sprinkle with streusel. Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, about 50 minutes. Immediately invert pan on heatproof serving plate. Let pan remain a minute so butterscotch can drizzle over coffeecake.
