     Meat Loaf

Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp chopped fresh or 1/4 tsp dried sage leaves, optional
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
1 clove garlic, finely chopped or 1/8 tsp garlic powder
1 large egg
 
3 slices bread, torn into small pieces ( or 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs or 3/4 cup quick-cooking oats)
1 small onion, chopped (about 1/4 cup)
1/2 cup ketchup, chili sauce, or barbecue sauce (optional topping)

Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix all ingredients except ketchup. Spread mixture in ungreased loaf pan. Spread ketchup over top.
Insert meat thermometer so tip is in center of loaf. Bake, uncovered for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until beef is no longer pink in center, juice is clear, and thermometer reads at least 160 degrees.
My kids do not like the topping, so we leave it off and don't miss it at all.
