Mix cake and set aside.
In another bowl, beat ricotta, eggs, sugar and vanilla.
Pour cake batter in pan.
Carefully pour cheese mixture evenly on top of the cake batter layer. Spread it to cover as much of cake batter as possible.
Bake for 1 hour. Allow to cool before frosting
