Sift together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Cut in shortening.
Add egg and water and mix well.
Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
Mix filling ingredients in a bowl-
Apples, sugar, tapioca, and cinnamon.
Roll out 2/3 of the dough to fit a 12x18 inch greased cookie sheet.
Place filling over bottom crust.
Roll out remaining dough and place on top of filling.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour (or 1/2 hour if canned apples are used).
Frost with powdered sugar icing while still warm.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
